Michael Mullen, MD obtained his undergraduate and medical school degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. He stayed at Penn for a residency in Neurology and a fellowship in vascular neurology and vascular medicine. He also obtained a Master’s of Science in Clinical Epidemiology from Penn. He is an assistant professor in the Department of Neurology in the Perelman School of Medicine. His clinical interests include acute stroke care and the primary and secondary prevention of cerebrovascular disease.

Dr. Mullen’s academic interests include health services research with a focus on healthcare delivery systems. His work spans the continuum of stroke care from the prehospital setting to secondary prevention. He is currently investigating the performance of emergency medical services (EMS) providers caring for stroke patients and quantifying the impact of prehospital EMS policies on population health. Additionally, he is investigating the use of connected health devices to improve stroke risk factor control. His goal is to utilizing technology to improve adherence with proven secondary prevention therapies and reduce the risk of stroke.
