Michael is the Director of the University of Pennsylvania’s Nurse Anesthesia Program. He is a Penn alumnus and a recipient of the Norma Lang Dean’s Award for Excellence in Scholarly Practice. He earned his DNP from Yale University as a Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholar.

Michael has provided anesthesia in a wide array of clinical settings ranging from the solo anesthesia provider model at an ambulatory surgery center, to community hospitals, to regional medical centers, to the anesthesia care team model at quaternary academic medical centers, to the highest acuity trauma environments in the country. His experience in such diverse areas informed his doctoral work, which focused on “Emergency Airway Preparedness at Ambulatory Surgery Centers with Solo Anesthesia Providers.”

Michael was also recognized as the Pennsylvania Association of Nurse Anesthetists’ Clinical Instructor of the Year. He has served on multiple state and national association committees and task forces and lectures for CRNA conferences nationally. He currently serves on the Jonas Alumni Advisory Board and is the Vice President of Penn’s University Club.
