Michael Patrick Wilson, MD, PhD, FAAEM, FACEP, is a board-certified physician in Emergency Medicine and Addiction Medicine and an Associate Professor in the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Psychiatry at Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, Virginia. A nationally recognized leader in psychiatric and behavioral emergencies, he serves as Director of Psychiatric Emergency Research, advancing evidence-based approaches to acute mental health and substance-related crises.
Dr. Wilson is the Immediate Past Chair of the Coalition on Psychiatric Emergencies and President-Elect of the American Association for Emergency Psychiatry. He also serves as Senior Associate Editor of the Journal of Emergency Medicine, contributing to the advancement of scholarship in acute care medicine.
An accomplished researcher, Dr. Wilson’s work in behavioral emergencies and substance use disorders has been cited more than 4,950 times (h-index 34). He has authored over 95 peer-reviewed articles, 30 book chapters, and four edited books. His research has been supported by numerous federal and private grants and has been recognized for innovation by the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
