Professor Dr. Since April 1, 2008, Michael P. Schön has been the new director of the Department of Dermatology and Venereology at the University Medical Center Goettingen. The 43-year-old takes over the management of the Göttingen University Dermatology Clinic, succeeding Professor Dr. Christine Neuman. She managed the department for 14 years and retired in July 2007. During the transition period, the management of the skin clinic was provisional with Prof. Dr. Lutz Kretschmer, now Deputy Head of the Department of Dermatology and Venereology.
"We are pleased that, in Professor Schön, we have been able to recruit a proven expert in dermatology for UMG, who also has a great deal of research experience in immunology and oncology," says UMG board spokesman Prof. Dr. Cornelius Frömmel. "With his special qualifications, the interdisciplinary research into immunological and oncological issues in cancer of the skin and other organs at the University Medical Center Göttingen will receive important impetus."
professor dr Michael P. Schön is a specialist in dermatology and venereology and a specialist in immunology. In addition, he has additional qualifications in the fields of allergology and dermato-histology as well as a diploma in health economics. Schön was born in Suhl and studied human medicine and philosophy in Ulm. He completed his further medical and scientific training in dermatology and immunology at the FU Berlin, the Harvard Medical School in Boston (USA), and the University of Düsseldorf. There he habilitated in 2000 with a thesis on "Molecular and cellular immune mechanisms in psoriasis-like skin diseases" for the subject of dermatology and venereology. He worked as a university lecturer and senior physician for dermatology at the University of Magdeburg until 2003.
