Michael Henry Kershaw obtained his PhD in 1997 from the University of Melbourne, Australia for his studies in tumor immunology. He then spent 4 years as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, where he was involved in research aimed at improving the immunotherapy of cancer. Michael returned to Australia to become part of a research and clinical team working on the development of promising new immunotherapies for cancer at The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne. He currently holds a Senior Research Fellowship from the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia and heads the Cancer Immunotherapy Research Laboratory at The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. This laboratory seeks to advance understanding of the interaction between the immune system and cancer and to rapidly translate research findings into clinical use.
