Michael Kabesch is full professor at Regensburg University in Germany and chief medical director of the University Mother and Child Hospital St. Hedwig, where he also heads the department of Pediatric Pneumology and Allergy. He is a pediatrician, pediatric pneumologist and allergologist and trained with Erika von Mutius in Munich and Fernando Martinez at the respiratory Center in Tucson Arizona.

His main research interests are early genetic and environmental factors associated with various respiratory diseases, allergy and immunity. He was involved in numerous large scale European research activities such as the GABRIEL consortium as well as the current HEALS and PICA consortia, publishing the first genome wide association studies on asthma and other atopic diseases. He was also one of the initial principle investigators establishing the German Lung Research Center (DZL). So far, his research led to more than 170 pubmed listed publications. Of the fellows he trained in his group, four have become professors themselves on 3 different continents.
