Michael J. Rutter, MD has been a pediatric otolaryngologist at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center since 2001, affiliated with the University of Cincinnati, and hold an academic rank of Professor of Pediatric Otolaryngology. He have a little expertise in the area of pediatric and adult airway surgery and management, and a fairly robust tertiary referral practice as a result.

His reputation as an airway surgeon has been enhanced by the perception that he is an innovator. While not all of the ideas he have promoted are necessarily novel, he have certainly popularized operations such as airway balloon dilation and slide tracheoplasty. He have also developed several operations (eg, epiglottic petiole repositioning, endoscopic anterior and posterior cricoid split for neonatal vocal cord paralysis), and have significantly modified several others (eg, cricotracheal resection, slide tracheoplasty).
