Michael John Mcphaul MD

Dr. McPhaul joined Quest Diagnostics Nichols Institute as Endocrinology Medical Director in June 2012. Prior to his recruitment to Quest, Dr. McPhaul was Associate Dean for Medical Student Research and Professor of Internal Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where he received his medical degree. During his 25 year tenure at Southwestern, his investigative career was clinical and translational in nature, leading to an international reputation in the fields of androgen action, diseases of the pituitary, and clinical research. He has published extensively, including more than 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and 23 reviews, and book chapters. Since joining Quest as Medical Director for Endocrinology and Metabolism.

Dr. McPhaul has focused primarily on the development of tools to assist in the comprehensive care of patients with prediabetes, metabolic syndrome, and diabetes mellitus, and the development of new diagnostic tests to permit the early identification of patients with diabetes complications. Dr. McPhaul is an active member of a number of professional organizations, including AACE, the Endocrine Society, the American Diabetes Association, and the Southern Society for Clinical Investigation. At the AFMR he serves as the Editor-in-Chief for 2 journals: the Journal of Investigative Medicine (JIM) and the Journal of Investigative Medicine - High Impact Case Reports (JIM-HICR).
