Michael Axe received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in 1979, where he continued for a year's internship before surgical residency with the Medical Center of Delaware through 1981 and orthopaedic residency at the University of Pittsburgh through 1984. After sports and trauma fellowships with the Hughston Sports Medicine Hospital (Columbus, Ga.) and Harborview Hospital (Seattle, Wash.).
Dr. Axe was a founding partner of First State Orthopedics in Newark, Del., in 1985, where he remains as director of the All Sports Clinic of Delaware. He has also been a teaching staff member of the Medical Center of Delaware since 1985 and has three continuing appointments with the University of Delaware: professor of physical therapy since 1992; medical director of the Sports Physical Therapy Residency Program beginning in 1993; and faculty member for biomedical engineering research since 1994.
