Mike Ibba is Chair of the Department of Microbiology and co-director of an NIH-sponsored graduate training program in Cellular and Molecular Biochemistry at Ohio State University. Mike also serves as the Associate Director of the Infectious Disease Institute at Ohio State University. He obtained an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from Imperial College in London and then went on to complete Ph.D. work in the field of microbial biochemistry at the University of Manchester.

After graduating he undertook both industrial and academic post-docs in Switzerland and the US before going on to set up his own independent research group. After starting out as a faculty member in Copenhagen, Denmark, Mike moved to the Department of Microbiology at Ohio State University where he has been since 2001. His lab works on various aspects of microbial protein synthesis and antibiotic resistance, topics on which he has co-authored over 180 publications. Mike has served as a member of grant review panels for both NIH and NSF, has chaired international meetings including a Gordon Research Conference, serves on the editorial boards of several journals, and is a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
