Dr. Michael Heuser is a Heisenberg Chair for Hematology and has been awarded an ERC starting grant for personalized nanomedicines for leukemia patients. He leads the leukemia program at Hannover Medical School and one of the central diagnostic laboratories of the GermanAustrian AML study group. He studied medicine in Berlin and Heidelberg and trained as a postdoctoral fellow at the Terry Fox Laboratory in Vancouver. His research focuses on the pathogenesis of acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplastic syndromes and he establishes new treatment modalities in patient-derived xenograft models with the aim of clinical translation. Dr. Heuser has been a clinical investigator in more than 50 clinical trials. He has received several awards like the Artur Pappenheim Award of the German Society of Hematology and Oncology and the Johann-Georg Zimmermann Research Award.
