Dr. Michael J Goretsky is a Professor of Clinical Surgery and Pediatrics. Dr Goretsky spent 15 years at Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia, USA – the “Home of the Nuss Procedure”. He is now a staff pediatric general and thoracic surgeon at Carolinas Health Center in Charlotte, NC helping to build a chest wall center at Levine Children’s Hospital. A graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, Michael Goretsky did his general surgical training at the University of Cincinnati, and Pediatric Surgical fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. He did research fellowships in ECMO at the Children’s Hospital of Cincinnati, and burn research at the Shriners Institute in Cincinnati. His major clinical interests are in chest wall diseases, minimally invasive surgery, and surgical quality and he was Surgeon Champion for NSQIP in Norfolk. He has numerous publications in peer reviewed journals on the Nuss procedure as well as numerous chapters in a variety of pediatric surgical text books. He has lectured extensively in the US and internationally on chest wall diseases and has been an instructor for all 12 international Nuss Chest Wall lectures in Norfolk, VA as well as the Advanced Pectus Course in Phoenix Arizona.
