Dr. Katze is Professor of Microbiology at the University of Washington and Associate Director and Core Staff Scientist at the Washington National Primate Research Center. He is the Program Director for a National Institute study on Drug Abuse P30 Center on Functional Genomics and HCV-Associated Liver Disease, Director of a National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases contract focused on using systems biology approaches to study the host response to emerging respiratory virus infections, and Co-Director of the Pacific Northwest Regional Center of Excellence.

Dr. Katze has studied virus-host interactions for more than 30 years and is a leader in applying systems biology approaches to the study of virus-host interactions and the interferon response. Author of more than 200 papers, he was awarded the prestigious Dozor Scholar Award by the Israeli Microbiology Society for his research accomplishments. Dr. Katze heads a laboratory focused on understanding the complex interplay between viruses and the cells they infect, and the mechanisms used by viruses to avoid the innate antiviral response.
