Dr. Michael Fuchs is a physician–scientist and Professor of Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, where he also serves as Chief of Gastroenterology at the Central Virginia VA Healthcare System in Richmond, Virginia. He has over two decades of experience in clinical research, with a strong focus on advancing the understanding and management of liver and gastrointestinal diseases.

His research program centers on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and its complications, as well as the development of non-invasive biomarkers and diagnostic tools for gastrointestinal and chronic liver disorders. His work spans basic science discovery, translational research, clinical trials, and population-based studies aimed at improving diagnosis, treatment, and healthcare delivery.

Dr. Fuchs is widely recognized for integrating laboratory findings into clinical practice and contributing to evidence-based guidelines in hepatology. Through his leadership at both VCU and the VA healthcare system, he continues to advance patient care, research innovation, and medical education in gastroenterology and liver disease.
