Michael Flint Dulin MD, PhD

Dr. Michael Dulin is the chief clinical officer for analytics and outcomes research for the Dickson Advanced Analytics Group (DA2) at Carolinas Healthcare System, one of the largest and nation’s most innovative healthcare organizations. It includes nearly 40 hospitals in North and South Carolina, in addition to physician practices, home health agencies, nursing homes, hospice and palliative care facilities.
Prior to assuming his role as chief clinical officer for analytics, Dr. Dulin served as the chair of the department of family medicine for two years, where he implemented a large-scale medical home using Lean process enhancement methods.
His research interests include: enhancing primary care access and quality for vulnerable populations; community-based participatory research (CBPR); comparative effectiveness research/implementation science; geographic information systems (GIS); preventative medicine; and chronic disease management.
Dr. Dulin completed his BS in electrical and biomedical engineering and started his career as a product engineer for advanced micro devices. Subsequently, Dr. Dulin received a graduate fellowship to support the completion of a PhD in neurophysiology in 1994 and then received his MD in 1998. Dr. Dulin trained to become a primary care physician at Carolinas Healthcare System. He has had additional training in health services research through a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Career Development Award and academic training at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Dr. Dulin founded and serves as the director of the Mecklenburg Area Partnership for Primary Care Research (MAPPR), and he co-founded the North Carolina Network Collaborative (NCNC).
