Prof. Dr. med. Michael Fischereder is a specialist in internal medicine and head of the nephrology department at the Ludwig Maximilians University Hospital in Munich, Medical Clinic and Polyclinic IV Campus downtown and Groshadern.

Prof. Fischereder studied human medicine from 1982 to 1988 at the Ludwig Maximilians University (LMU) in Munich. After his internship as a doctor at the BG Unfallklinik in Murnau, he completed the American specialist training in internal medicine at the University of Minnesota, USA, from 1990 to 1993. In 1993 he received the American Board Certification in Internal Medicine. From 1993 to 1999 he continued his specialist training in "Internal Medicine, Nephrology" at the LMU Clinic, Medical Polyclinic, Inner City Campus, Munich, where he also received his doctorate in 1998.

From 1993 to 1999, Prof. Fischereder was a senior physician in nephrology at the University Hospital in Regensburg. In 2002 he completed his habilitation at the University of Regensburg on the subject of "Influence of genetic factors on the function of kidney transplants". A year later, Prof. Fischereder received the C3 professor for internal medicine and nephrology at the LMU Clinic, Medical Polyclinic Campus Inner City, Munich. From 2007 to 2011 he was head of the Nephrological Center at the LMU Clinic, Medical Polyclinic Campus Inner City, Munich. From 2010 to 2011 he was head of the nephrology department at the LMU Clinic, Medical Clinic, and Polyclinic I, Groshadern campus. Since the merger of the two units in 2012, Prof. Fischereder has been head of the nephrology department at the LMU Clinic, Medical Clinic and Polyclinic IV Campus downtown, and Groshadern.
