Michael D. Leise, MD, is a Professor of Medicine and transplant hepatologist in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He serves as Medical Director of Liver Transplantation and is nationally recognized for his expertise in advanced liver disease, liver transplantation, hepatic encephalopathy, hepatitis C, cirrhosis, and complex hepatobiliary disorders.
Dr. Leise earned his medical degree from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine and completed his residency, chief residency, fellowship training in gastroenterology and hepatology, and transplant hepatology fellowship at Mayo Clinic. Board-certified in gastroenterology and transplant hepatology, he has built a distinguished career focused on improving outcomes for patients with chronic liver disease and those undergoing liver transplantation.
In addition to his clinical leadership, Dr. Leise is actively involved in translational and outcomes-based research related to hepatic encephalopathy, hepatitis C therapies, and liver transplant outcomes. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and has received multiple honors for teaching excellence, clinical innovation, and highly cited research contributions.
