Dr. Michael Burczynski, Ph.D., is a biomedical researcher who has led various laboratories and departments within pharmaceutical companies since 2001, with a focus on translational research across the drug development R&D continuum. He is also a published novelist writing under the pen name Michael Ransom. His award-winning debut novel THE RIPPER GENE was published by Tor-Forge Books (a division of Macmillan) in 2015. He is currently a Senior Director and Head of Translational Medicine at Teva Pharmaceuticals. Prior to Teva he was the Executive Director and Head of Biomarker Technologies at Bristol Myers Squibb, the Global Head of Genomics & Genetics within Roche, and the Head of the Biomarker Laboratory at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. His laboratories have delivered key translational insights for dozens of pharmaceutical candidates and many approved medicines including Torisel, Gemtuzumab, Pristiq, Actemra, Zelboraf, Yervoy and Opdivo among others.

He also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where he teaches coursework in pharmacogenetics and toxicogenomics. He is an invited speaker at scientific conferences and author events each year, and has published more than fifty peer-reviewed scientific articles, reviews and book chapters. He also has edited two life science textbooks: An Introduction to Toxicogenomics was published by CRC Press in 2003, and Surrogate Tissue Analysis was published by Taylor and Francis in 2005. As a novelist he writes and publishes under the pseudonym of Michael Ransom (on Linked In). His debut novel, The Ripper Gene, was published in 2015 by Tor-Forge (Macmillan). It was featured in Writer's Digest and won the Silver Falchion Award for Best Horror Mystery in 2016. As a member of Mystery Writers of America, International Thriller Writers, and the Author's Guild, he frequently participates in readings and other author events. He is hard at work on multiple projects at the moment.
