Dr. Michael Gorin is a fellowship-trained minimally invasive urologist. He currently practices at Urology Associates and UPMC Western Maryland in Cumberland Maryland. Dr. Gorin holds the academic rank of Clinical Assistant Professor of Urology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and maintains an affiliation with the Vattikuti Urology Institute at the Henry Ford Hospital, where he serves as a consultant on clinical trial development. Dr. Gorin’s clinical practice focuses on the care of patients with a range of urologic conditions including benign prostatic hyperplasia, kidney stones, and prostate cancer.
Dr. Gorin is an internationally recognized expert in the field of image-guided urology. He is best known for his work studying the use of molecular imaging techniques in the management of urologic malignancies. His research includes studying PSMA-targeted 18F-DCFPyL PET imaging of prostate cancer and 99mTc-sestamibi SPECT/CT imaging of small renal tumors. He is also widely known for his work developing novel methods for performing MRI-guided transperineal.
To date, Dr. Gorin has published over 250 articles in peer-reviewed journals (h-index = 38) and has contributed to multiple medical textbooks, including chapters in Campbell-Walsh-Wein Urology, The 5-Minute Urology Consult, and Gray’s Anatomy. Dr. Gorin also serves on the editorial boards of several journals including UROLOGY (the Gold Journal), British Journal of Urology International, and World Journal of Urology, and has received numerous honors and awards for his work. Because of his level of scholarly accomplishment, Dr. Gorin currently serves as a consultant to numerous pharmaceutical and medical device companies.
Dr. Gorin attended college at the University of Michigan where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Cellular and Molecular Biology. He then went on to attend medical school at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine where he graduated as an inductee to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Following medical school, Dr. Gorin completed a general surgery internship, a urology residency, and a fellowship in endoscopic and minimally invasive urology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Gorin’s clinical mentors include some of the most prominent names in the field of urology, including Dr. Patrick C. Walsh, Dr. H. Ballentine Carter, Dr. Alan W. Partin, Dr. Mohamad E. Allaf, and Dr. Brian R. Matlaga.
