Dr. Mercedes S. Dominguez graduated from Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain in 1996. She practiced general dentistry for the next two years, while also completing a Certificate in Endodontics at the Universidad de Valencia, Spain in 1997. Her mentor, Dr. Rafael Miñana, one of the founders of the Spanish Association of Endodontics, encouraged her to continue her education in endodontics in the United States. In 1998 she moved to the United States (where she was born) and entered the endodontic program at the Baylor College of Dentistry, Dallas, TX, where she received both a Certificate of Endodontics and a Master of Science in 2001.
Her master thesis “Histological, SEM and Immunohistochemical Assessment in Contemporary Pulp Therapy” was awarded First Place at the Tri-Dental Texas meeting in 2001. Dr. Dominguez's research was published in the Journal of Endodontics, published by the American Association of Endodontics. She has further published articles and spoken in conferences around the world. Dr. Dominguez was past president of the DFW Endodontic Metroplex Society from 2005-2008. She is an active member of several professional associations, including the American Association of Endodontics, the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, the Dallas County Society, the DFW Metroplex Endodontic Society, and the Irving Dental Study Club. She was past president of the last two associations.
