Mercedes Day, DNP, RN, FNP-C, is a full-time Urgent Care Nurse Practitioner with Cook Children's Urgent Care Center. She began her nursing career as a baccalaureate prepared nurse (BSN), which she received from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX in 2006. She worked as a floor nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for 5 years at University Medical Center in Lubbock, TX. She went on to pursue a Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) in 2009 and completed her certificate in Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) in 2011 both from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC).
She received her Doctorate in Nursing Practice in May 2016 from TTUHSC. After completing her FNP, she started working in pediatric oncology at TTUHSC School of Medicine (SOM) and enjoyed working with these children and their families for over a year but she longed for more independence in practicing as a nurse practitioner. She then went into pediatric primary practice for TTUHSC SOM for 2 years with her own practice of patients and greatly enjoyed working more independently with 4 wonderful pediatricians. After moving to Fort Worth, Texas, she started working a Cook Children's UCC in 2015. Sge has served numerous times as a preceptor for Nurse Practitioner students and enjoys helping others achieve their educational goals. She is also faculty at TTUHSC School of Nursing and teaches in the Graduate Nurse Practitioner program. She enjoys spending time with her husband and 3 young children. She enjoys traveling in her spare time and being outdoors with her children.
