Meng Hee Tan, MD, is a Clinical Professor of Medicine, at the Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology, and Diabetes, Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan. Before joining UM, he was Distinguished Medical Fellow, Lilly Research Laboratories, and Senior Medical Director, Diabetes Endocrine Platform Team at Eli Lilly and Company, Indianapolis.

Dr. Tan graduated with his MD (cum laude) from Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada. At his alma mater, he completed a rotating internship and internal medicine residency. His post-doctoral training in diabetes was at the Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard University, Boston, and his training in lipoprotein metabolism was at the Cardiovascular Research Institute, University of California, San Francisco. The Medical Research Council of Canada supported his post-doctoral training, initially as a Research Fellow and subsequently as a Centennial Fellow.

Dr. Tan returned to Dalhousie after completion of his training. When he left Dalhousie University in 1996, after 21+ years of service, he was a Professor of Medicine and Biochemistry and Associate Professor of Community Health and Epidemiology. He was Head of Dalhousie's Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism and Deputy Head of Dalhousie's Department of Medicine, as well as Head of the Department of Medicine at one of the adult teaching hospitals.

Dr. Tan has over 170 publications on diabetes, lipoprotein metabolism, and endocrinology published in peer-reviewed journals. He is a Past President of the Canadian Diabetes Association and Vice-President of the International Diabetes Federation.
