Dr. Melissa A. Lazar, MD, FACS, is an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of General Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University’s Sidney Kimmel Medical College and Jefferson Health. She is a board-certified general surgeon with a clinical focus on breast surgery and surgical oncology. Dr. Lazar earned her medical degree from Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University and completed her surgical residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. She further advanced her training with a fellowship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, specializing in breast surgical oncology.
In clinical practice, Dr. Lazar provides expert care in breast surgery, including breast-conserving procedures and surgical oncology, and is involved in both minimally invasive techniques and comprehensive surgical management of breast disease. She is active in clinical research, with publications examining sentinel lymph node evaluation, breast-conserving surgery outcomes, and innovative intraoperative radiation approaches. Dr. Lazar has been recognized for her contributions to surgical education and patient care, earning inclusion among Philadelphia Magazine’s “Top Docs” for multiple years and the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Education at Sidney Kimmel Medical College.
