Dr. Melissa Louise Pilewskie is a faculty member in the Department of Surgery and director of the Breast Care Center at Michigan Medicine. She received her B.S. in biology from the University of Michigan, a medical degree from The Ohio State University, completed her general surgical residency training at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, finished her training with a fellowship in surgical breast oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in NYC, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

During her training, Dr. Pilewskie has been the recipient of the Breast Cancer Achievement Award from the Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Symposium and was a two-time recipient of the Conquer Cancer Foundation of the American Society of Clinical Oncology Merit Award. Following her clinical fellowship, she joined the faculty at MSKCC, where she was an Associate Attending the Breast Service in the Department of Surgery and Director of Strategic Planning and Research for RISE, the MSKCC high-risk breast cancer program, for 9 years before returning to Ann Arbor.

Dr. Pilewskie's clinical practice is devoted to the management of breast cancer and surgical breast diseases. She performs all aspects of surgery for breast cancer and high-risk breast lesions, including excisional biopsies, lumpectomy, mastectomy, nipple-sparing mastectomy, lymph node biopsy, and axillary lymph node dissection. In addition, she is actively involved in risk management and counsels women on risk-reducing surgery.
