Dr. Melissa Bondy is a member of the Childhood Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention Program, Baylor College of Medicine and The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Melissa Bondy’s research concentrates on genetic and molecular epidemiology studies to assess the roles of heredity and genetic susceptibility in the etiology of cancer, primarily brain and breast cancer. She is principal investigator of several NIH grants evaluating gene-environment and gene-gene interactions to determine if gliomas occur more frequently in patients with poor DNA repair capacity, and with adverse genotypes compared with healthy controls. In a breast cancer study, Dr. Melissa Bondy is determining genetic factors related to outcomes. She directs a feasibility study for a Mexican-American cohort study in Houston, Texas. The goal of this long-term study is to identify risk factors that might be associated with disease patterns in this understudied population.
