Dr. Brunsvold is Program Director of the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship and Associate Program Director of the General Surgery Residency. She also serves as the Clinical Director of the SimPORTAL Simulation Center. She serves as the Medical Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and as the Medical Director of the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Program.

Nationally, Dr. Brunsvold participates in leadership and committee work in several organizations, including recently serving as Chair of the Education Research Committee of the Association for Surgical Education. She has contributed substantially to the Fundamentals of Surgery Curriculum and the ASPIRES project of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Brunsvold has been nationally recognized for her contributions to education, she received the Phillip J. Wolfson Outstanding Teaching Award from the Association for Surgical Education in 2014. She also received the 2009 Education Specialty Award for a submission to the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
