Melanie is a Principal Data Scientist at Genentech and a staunch patient advocate. Her career at Genentech spans more than a decade, ranging from early-stage research & target discovery in neuroscience, immunology, and oncology, to the real-world health outcomes data derived from EHRs linked with genomic data. Before Genentech, Melanie studied population genetics, genome biology, and evolution, receiving her Ph.D. in Computational Biology at McMaster University in Canada, followed by postdoctoral research at Cornell University. Melanie and her daughter Teagan reside in San Francisco, CA. During her free time, she enjoys singing and performing live music with friends, dabbling in various paint media, and spending time in nature. A favorite activity is seeing the joy on my daughter’s face while on trail rides during her horse-riding therapy.
