Mehmet Ustun PhD

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Erkan Ustun graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1986, ranking 4th. In 1987, he began his neurosurgery residency at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, Bini Sina Hospital. During and after his residency, he worked twice for a total of four months under the supervision of Prof. Diemath at the University Hospital in Salzburg, Austria. After completing his residency in 1992, he served his mandatory term at Tarsus State Hospital until 1996. In 1996, due to an available position, he started working as an Assistant Professor in the Neurosurgery Department at Selçuk University. He became an Associate Professor on November 19, 2002.

In 2006, he ranked first among the Faculty Associate Professors with the highest score in the evaluation of publications and citations in SCI-indexed journals. He became a Professor in 2009. He has approximately 50 international research publications. He completed his PhD in Anatomy in 2011. Thanks to the surgical technique he developed, inspired by his doctoral thesis, he can achieve improvement in strokes caused by narrowing and twisting of the blood vessels supplying the brain (especially in patients who do not respond to medication and physical therapy). Depending on the location of the affected vessel, he can also treat vertigo, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's-type dementia, spasticity, some types of epilepsy, and imbalance-related walking difficulties, tremors, speech disorders, and some visual impairments.
