Dr. Meera Hameed is Chief of Surgical Pathology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) and Professor of Pathology at Weill Cornell Medical College. Training included Medical School (Madras University), Residency (Hahnemann University), and Fellowship in oncologic surgical pathology (MSKCC). Her academic career began at Montefiore/Albert-Einstein to Rutgers-NJMS, before MSKCC. She is also a molecular pathologist with leadership positions in this field at both Rutgers-NJMS and MSKCC (Program Director). As Chief of Surgical Pathology, Dr. Hameed’s vision is to incorporate the use of digital technology into diagnostic pathology.

She is actively involved in the digitization, integration of workflow, and consultative access, and the use of digital platforms for interfacing with other disciplines. She is also Co-Director of the Warren Alpert Center for Digital and Computational Pathology, with over 4 million scanned images, and has developed an infrastructure for deep learning and computational pathology at MSKCC. The Center is also paving the way towards utilizing new imaging modalities. Dr. Hameed is known for her expertise in bone and soft tissue pathology and has presented at national and international conferences. She served as a member of the Education Committee, Nominating Committee, and Board of Directors of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) and the Meritorious Award Committee of the American Society of Investigative Pathology.

She is the Treasurer of the International Society of Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology. She is a member of the International Skeletal Society and has served as Executive Council Member of that society. She serves on the Molecular Oncology Committee of the College of American Pathologists and has served on the Clinical Practice Committee of the Association of Molecular Pathology. She has authored over 160 publications as well as many book chapters and review articles. She has co-directed several short courses for USCAP. She serves as an Associate Editor of the American Journal of Pathology and is an Editorial Board Member of Modern Pathology. In all these roles, she has focused on the continuing evolution of pathology in the age of personalized medicine. Her expertise in multiple aspects of modern pathology provides her with a unique perspective.
