Dr Buch is a Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Rheumatologist. She is Section Head of Clinical Musculoskeletal Medicine and Deputy Director, Leeds Institute of Rheumatic & Musculoskeletal Medicine, University of Leeds.

Dr Buch has extensive experience in autoimmune disease and immunotherapies, with particular interest in inflammatory/rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and scleroderma. Her doctoral thesis focused on the investigation and management of differential response to TNF inhibitors in RA.

Her research programme includes large clinical research (including trial) activity with a translational focus; understanding mechanism of action of targeted therapies and identification of response predictors to select appropriate patients for specific therapies. She is also leading a cardiovascular (CV) in autoimmune disease programme – investigating CV pathology in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases and the impact of treatment. She holds several large grants including a broad ranging NIHR portfolio and investigator-initiated studies.

Dr. Buch is actively involved in many international activities with significant involvement in the European league Against Rheumatism (EULAR). She is current Chair of the Scientific Organising Committee for EULAR Annual Congress 2015 and was Abstract Chair for EULAR Congress 2014. She has also led on or participated in several EULAR task forces. She co-founded EMEUNET, a young rheumatologist’s European League Against Rheumatism initiative and was its first Chair; aimed at promoting education, collaboration and excellence in research by emerging rheumatologists in Europe. She is an Arthritis Research UK Adult Inflammatory arthritis Clinical Study Group Steering Committee member.
