Professor Maurilio Marcacci is in charge of the Center for joint knee reconstruction of the Humanitas research hospital in Milan. He is a specialist in orthopedics and traumatology, sports medicine, and physio kinesitherapy. He is the author of over 400 publications, 48 ​​book chapters, and 6 monographs. He is the inventor and owner of 9 medical patents. His research activity led him to be the coordinator of numerous scientific projects funded by national and international institutions.

Over the past 35 years, his career and professionalism have been one of the pillars of the prestigious Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute of Bologna, where he was Director of the Orthopedic and Traumatology Clinic, Director of the Laboratory of Biomechanics and Technological Innovation, Director of the School of Specialization in Orthopedics and Traumatology, up to the role of Scientific Director in the two-year period 2015-2016. He has also been Professor of Diseases of the Locomotor Apparatus at the University of Bologna since 2006.

Prof. Marcacci has been involved in numerous European research projects, including Novel Approach: Transnational Postgraduate Education and Training Programme in Musculoskeletal Regenerative Research (NA-TPET-MURR), European School for Training in Orthopedics (ESTRO), a Training program on new bio-inspired bone regeneration (BIOINSPIRE), and Composite Phenotypic Triggers for Bone and Cartilage Repair (OPHIS).
