Matt Hulver is the Executive Director of the Fralin Life Sciences Institute and Professor of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Matt joined Virginia Tech in 2006 and has held multiple leadership roles, including Department Head of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise (2013- 2019), Co-Founding Director of the Center for Transformative Research on Health Behaviors (2016-2020), and Assistant Dean of Health Sciences in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (2018-2020).

Matt's research program has focused on elucidating mechanisms governing metabolic adaptation to changes in diet and physical activity and/or inactivity; and the etiology of skeletal muscle metabolic inflexibility in the context of overfeeding, obesity, and insulin resistance. His research program has spanned the translational research spectrum by using tools of molecular and cellular tools of discovery through human clinical interventions, with 15+ years of continuous grant support from funding agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, the American Diabetes Association, and various industry partners.
