Matthew Porembka, M.D., is an Associate Professor of Surgical Oncology in the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He treats patients with liver, pancreas, stomach, and bile duct cancers. After receiving his undergraduate degree at Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Porembka earned his medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery internship and residency at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He then performed a research fellowship in tumor immunology at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital and a fellowship in complex general surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Porembka became a UT Southwestern faculty member in 2014, where he was named a Dedman Family Scholar in Clinical Care. Dr. Porembka's previous recognitions and awards include the Kristen Ann Carr Traveling Fellowship in 2014 and the Eugene M. Bricker Teaching Award in 2012, which he received while serving the second of two years as the Administrative Chief Resident at Washington University. He has published numerous articles and presented invited lectures both regionally and nationally. Dr. Porembka is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, as well as a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology and the Association for Academic Surgery.
