After earning his PhD in haematology at The University of Western Australia in 2003, Matthew undertook a prestigious postdoctoral fellowship and then junior faculty research position at The Centre for Platelet Function Studies at The University of Massachusetts Medical School, which became The Centre for Platelet Research at Harvard Medical School. Matthew returned to Australia in 2007 as a senior academic at RMIT University's School of Medical Sciences. He returned to the University of Western Australia as Associate Professor and Head of Cytometry in the Centre for Microscopy, Chatacterisation and Analysis in 2012, before joining the School of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (now the School of Biomedical Sciences) as Associate Professor of Haematology in 2015.
