Matthew Grant is a General Practitioner, Palliative Medicine Physician, and Researcher. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre of Expertise in Palliative Care Utrecht (UMC Utrecht), where his research is focused on better integration of primary and informal care at the end of life. After completing his training as a GP in Australia (2014), Matthew embarked on a further three-year specialization as a Palliative Medicine Physician (2016) in Melbourne. After finishing this training he worked at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne as a staff specialist, combining this with research. He continues to work clinically, combining occasional remote area GP locums in Australia with his research work.

During this training, he developed an increasing interest in research in palliative and primary care. His PhD, done through Monash University and the Palliative Nexus Research Group, focused on informal community support through cancer treatment. In 2020, he began working at the Julius Centre for Health Sciences and Primary Care. Matt continues to be involved in post-graduate education and development for the University of Melbourne, Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre, and Utrecht University. He is a digital health enthusiast and has served as a clinical advisor for the national implementation of Australian digital health records since 2018, in particular integrating advanced care documentation into clinical systems.
