Dr Matthew D. Brace is a top cosmetic and reconstructive facial surgeon. A University of Guelph alumni, Dr Brace, studied medicine in Halifax, Nova Scotia at Dalhousie University where he was introduced to the field of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Dr Brace went on to complete a rigorous and prestigious five-year residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Dalhousie University. He spent a portion of his residency visiting and learning from world-renowned facial plastic surgeons in Toronto, New York City, Beverly Hills, Fort Worth, and Cleveland. During his training, he received two first-place awards in the Division of Otolaryngology’s resident research competition, as well as grants from the Department of Surgery for research excellence. He represented Dalhousie’s Otolaryngology department for two consecutive years at the national resident research competition and published five peer-reviewed essential science research papers during residency. He was awarded for excellence in teaching with the Resident Teaching Award and received the Head and Neck Surgery Award for excellence in surgical skills and management of head and neck oncology patients. As the chief resident, Dr Brace founded the Dalhousie Resident Facial Plastics Clinic and the Canadian Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery Resident Interest Group.
Following residency training, Dr Brace was accepted to a highly competitive and coveted facial plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at the Ohio State University through the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. During his scholarship, Dr Brace functioned as a Clinical Associate Professor for the Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery program at OSU, teaching and supervising residents both in surgery and in the classroom. Dr Brace’s fellowship practice focused on caring for patients suffering from craniofacial trauma, facial burns, facial skin cancer, facial paralysis, head and neck vascular malformations, nasal injury, medication-resistant migraines, nasal obstruction, nasal valve collapse, rosacea, and complex facial scarring. Under the mentorship of Dr Stephen Smith Jr and Dr Mike Sullivan, Dr Brace received excellent high volume training in cosmetic facial surgery, performing facelift surgery, rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, lipotransfer, and otoplasty. He also trained extensively in and provided treatments with cosmetic and therapeutic Botox, hyaluronic acid facial fillers, Belkyra, chemical peels, aesthetic lasers, and light-based skin rejuvenation therapies.
