Dr. Matthew C. Tate, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor of Neurological Surgery and Neurology in the Ken & Ruth Davee Department of Neurology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He is a board-certified neurosurgeon with clinical and academic expertise at the intersection of neurosurgery and cognitive neurology.
Dr. Tate’s clinical practice focuses on the surgical management of complex neurological conditions, including brain tumors and epilepsy, with an emphasis on optimizing neurological and cognitive outcomes. He is affiliated with Northwestern Medicine and participates in multidisciplinary care across specialized programs.
His research interests center on neurosurgical outcomes, brain tumor surgery, seizure control, and the impact of surgical interventions on cognition and quality of life. Dr. Tate is actively involved in clinical and translational research and is affiliated with the Mesulam Center for Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer’s Disease and the Northwestern University Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (NUCATS).
Dr. Tate earned his MD from Emory University School of Medicine and his PhD from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He completed his residency training in Neurological Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and is dedicated to medical education, research advancement, and patient-centered neurosurgical care.
