Matthew Beard, PhD, is a Senior Director and Neuroscience Toxin Expert at Ipsen, where he has worked since 2013, contributing to drug discovery and development initiatives focused on neurological therapeutics. Before joining Ipsen, he served at Syntaxin Ltd. from 2006 to 2013, where he gained extensive experience in protein-based drug development and translational research. Dr. Beard completed his post-doctoral training at Columbia University in the Rothman Lab as a research scientist from 2004 to 2006, following an earlier post-doctoral fellowship at Yale University in the Warren Lab from 2000 to 2004.

He earned his PhD from the University of Glasgow as a student in the Houslay Lab between 1995 and 2000, after completing a First Class Honours BSc at the University of St Andrews from 1991 to 1995. His research interests span drug discovery and development, protein therapeutics, neurotoxins, and neurology, with a strong focus on protein trafficking, secretion, SNARE-mediated membrane fusion, and cell signalling.
