Matteo completed a Ph.D. at the Imperial College of London in Prof. Niall Dillon’s lab studying transcriptional regulation in primary mouse B cells. He continued working in the lab for a short post-doc to carry out a follow-up project in mouse embryonic stem cells, applying CRISPR to study epigenetics features of pluripotency and mouse ES cell differentiation. Matteo joined GSK in January 2016 in Klio Maratou’s group in Target Sciences and has been developing genome editing pipelines in primary cells, such as fibroblasts derived from IPF patients, as well as in human IPS-derived microglia and macrophages. Matteo is working at the moment in Functional Genomics leading an arrayed CRISPR screen in IPS-derived macrophages to find novel targets involved in restoring tissue homeostasis and limiting tissue damage.
