Matteo M. Winkler PhD, JD, LLM

Matteo obtained a Ph.D. in international law and economics from Bocconi University and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Yale Law School. Before joining HEC, he taught international law and EU law extensively at Bocconi.

His academic interests span cross-border business transactions, human rights, transnational litigation, and diversity management, all subjects in which he has published substantially in English, French, and Italian. Among his most recent articles are A Tale of Two Fathers (with Kellen Trilha Shappo) and U.S. Economic Sanctions and the Corporate Compliance of Foreign Banks (with David Restrepo Amariles).

Recently, he joined a conference at the European University Institute on gender and law with a paper on the Caster Semenya case. In 2019, the French not-for-profit association L’Autre Cercle acknowledged him as a role model for LGBT+ and allies in France.
