Matjaz Bunc expert in the field of cardiology, a researcher, and an educator. After completing his specialization training in Slovenia, he further advanced his professional knowledge at the Houston Texas Heart Institute as well as at numerous congresses and workshops in Europe and the USA. In basic research, he collaborates with a leading French institution in the field of biochemical research. His expertise covers many subareas of cardiology. He has performed more than fifteen hundred coronary investigations and angioplasty procedures. He is a member of a cardiac team of experts that specialize in advanced heart failure, transplant medicine, stem cell therapy, and plasmapheresis following myocarditis. He is accredited for introducing the most advanced method of percutaneous transfemoral aortic stent valve implantation into clinical practice. He is going to start with the percutaneous aortic valve procedures, which are one of the latest achievements in the field of cardiology; in Slovenia in June 2009. In his research work, he continuously integrates basic research on isolated organs and cells with clinical research. His research discoveries have been published in more than fifty articles cited by SCI, including journals of the highest rank such as Critical Care Medicine, Critical Care, Journal of Cardiac Failure, Journal of Endovascular Therapy, and Neuroscience Methods. He has published more than 150 scientific papers and presentations and has actively participated in numerous international congresses. He is a permanent reviewer of a leading magazine in the field of intensive internal medicine (Critical Care Medicine, Stroke). He is a lecturer and rehabilitated professor in both: Pathological physiology and Internal medicine at the University of Ljubljana Medical Faculty. Dr. Bunc is a member of several national associations of cardiologists and a member of the European Society of Cardiology.
