Mathieu von Joest graduated with an MSc in Immunology from Pierre & Marie Curie University (now Sorbonne University), during which he performed internships at the Weizmann Institute (Rehovot, Israel) studying bone marrow transplantation and at Harvard Medical School (Boston, USA) working on tumor cell behavior. After a gap year at EMBL (European Molecular Biology Laboratories) (Heidelberg, Germany), he started his PhD in 2015 at Institut Pasteur (Paris, France) under the supervision of Dr. Han Li. During his PhD, he studied the impact of senescence on the reprogramming process and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). He joined A. Miccio’s Lab in June 2020 and developed new gene therapy strategies for the treatment of β-hemoglobinopathies.
