Massimiliano is an airway enthusiastic anesthesiologist working in a large University hospital in Catania, Italy, with an amazing view of Mount Etna, the Mediterranean sea, and centuries of history.

He has been working in different Specialties in Operatory Room and in ICU and he started his research in the field of airway management in 2002 thanks to his mentor, and friend, Giulio Frova. He was also in charge of Airway Management teaching programs in the postgraduate School in Anesthesia and Intensive Care at the University of Catania. He is past chair of the Italian national Society of Anesthesia Airway Management research group, now chairing European Airway Management Society SC11 (respiration and airway management), he is a task force member of EACTA and president-elect of European Airway Management Society. He is a fellow of the EAMS and member of the ASA Difficult Airways Guidelines task force and a member of the PUMA (Project for Universal Management of Airways) task force. Speaker in more than 300 international congresses, workshops, and scientific meetings in Italy and worldwide, where he enjoys meeting international airway experts and friends and enthusiastic people who shares knowledge and experiences.

He is also the author or co-author of many indexed scientific papers (more than 900 citations, h-index 16), books, website modules, and e-learning platforms. When he is not working or sitting in front of his Mac, you could find him traveling or diving down deep into his beloved Mediterranean Sea.
