Masamitsu Honma PhD

Dr. Masamitsu Honma is the Director of the Division of Genetics and Mutagenesis in the National Institute of Health Sciences (NIHS), Tokyo, Japan. He received the Ph.D. degree in Faculty of Medicine, The University of Tokyo, where he studied human genetics and molecular toxicology. After studying as a postdoctoral fellow at the JCRB Cell Bank in NIHS, Tokyo and at Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, he started research works in the field of genetic toxicology in NIHS 25 years ago. He has studied about DNA repair, mutagenesis, genomic instability, genotoxicity tests, genotoxic QSAR models, etc., and published more than 180 papers in Mutation Research, DNA Repair, Mutagenesis, Environmental and Molecular Mutagenesis (EMM), Molecular and Cellular Biology, and others.
He is now working as a senior editor of EMM and Mutagenesis. Dr. Honma is also responsible for a lot of regulatory works in Japanese and international bodies. He is a topic leader in ICH genotoxicity groups (S2(R1), M7), an expert for the review of OECD Test Guidelines on genotoxicity, a steering committee member of IWGT and ILSI/HESIGTTC. He works as a genotoxicity expert in the Food Safety, Chemicals Safety, and Labor Safety Committees of Japan and reviews more than 500 genotoxicity studies annually.
Dr. Honma has been actively involved in Environmental Mutagen Society, especially, in Asian society. He is a secretary of AAEMS. He is conferred the visiting professor by Osaka University, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica in Shanghai, and West China School of Public Health in Chengdu.
