Mary is Professor of Cancer Nursing Research and Practice at the Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions Research Unit (NMAHP-RU), University of Stirling, Scotland UK. She is a cancer nurse with a clinical academic background in health services research within oncology. After graduating with a degree in Nursing Studies from Guy’s Hospital London, she went on to specialise in cancer nursing at Bart’s Hospital London. She has worked in a variety of leadership, clinical and research posts in London, Oxford and Scotland and she was the first Centre Head at the Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre in Dundee.
She works closely with a number of leading UK cancer charities, was a member of the Executive Board of the European Oncology Nursing Society (EONS) from 2009 – 2015 and currently co-chairs the EONS Research Working Group. Her research focusses on supportive and psychosocial care, nurse-led initiatives and specifically the needs, experiences and outcomes of people who have completed treatment. She has a particular interest in head and neck cancer and has published widely in this field.
