Dr Tolcos’ research career has predominantly investigated the neurodevelopmental consequences of early life events such as intrauterine growth restriction, fetal hypoxia/ischemia, and fetal inflammation. She has focussed on critical aspects of brain development and brain injury and is working towards understanding the mechanisms involved in altered brain development and brain injury with the aim to generate more targeted approaches to neuroprotection and improve long-term outcomes.
Dr. Tolcos has been awarded significant funding from the NHMRC and philanthropic organizations. She has a strong publications record and collaborations within Australia, the USA, and Europe. Mary has been invited to present her research at conferences and to research departments including Harvard Medical School. She has reviewed manuscripts for international journals and has been a grant reviewer in the UK and also for the NHMRC in Australia.
