Mary Taub PhD

Mary L. Taub, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University at Buffalo. She is an accomplished researcher whose work focuses on kidney epithelial cell growth, transport, differentiation, and the molecular mechanisms underlying renal disease. Her research interests encompass cell metabolism, inherited metabolic disorders, membrane transport, molecular and cellular biology, RNA, signal transduction, stem cells, and transcriptional regulation.

Dr. Taub’s laboratory investigates how hormones, growth factors, and extracellular matrix proteins regulate kidney tubule epithelial cell growth and functional differentiation. Her research has also explored renal cell culture models, membrane transport proteins, kidney cancer epigenetics, renal stem cells, cystinosis, nephrotoxicity, and mechanisms involved in kidney disease.

She earned her PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, following an MA from the same institution and a BA in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Taub joined the University at Buffalo faculty in 1979 and has served as Professor of Biochemistry since 1992. Her career has been supported by numerous research grants, including funding from the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute, and she has received multiple honors, including NIH Research Career Development and Postdoctoral Fellowship awards.
