Jacob professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Jacob’s leadership roles since coming to UConn have been varied. Most recently, she served for nine years as senior associate dean for faculty affairs. Within the educational domain, she was the UConn site training director for the Hartford Consortium Psychology Internship from 1993 to 1998 and for 11 years, served as the course director for Human Development and Health in the School of Medicine curriculum.

Dr. Jacob has been a leader within the Mental Health Professional Group of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM MHPG). Within Division 38 (Health Psychology) of the APA, she has served in various capacities. Most recently, she has been an abstract reviewer for the 2006-2013 annual meetings and was the poster session chair in 2007. In 2006, she was the recipient of the Timothy B. Jeffrey Award for Outstanding Contributions to Clinical Health Psychology awarded by Division 38 of the APA.

Dr. Jacob is a founding member of the APA Leadership Institute for Women in Psychology and chairs the Admissions Committee. She is also a core faculty member of the Faculty Leadership Academy organized by the Department of Pediatrics at Columbia University.

Dr. Jacob received her Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1989 and was an ELAM fellow in 2005-2006. Her clinical activities and research were in the area of chronic pain management at the VAMC in West Haven, Conn. until 1991. Since that time, her clinical activities have been in reproductive psychology and her research has been in the area of coping and adaptation to infertility.
