Dr. Jackson completed a pediatric residency at Cincinnati Children’s, and infectious diseases fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern, before joining the faculty at Children’s Mercy Kansas City in 1984. She has been recognized with awards locally, regionally, and nationally as an educator on the topic of pediatric infectious diseases. A fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Infectious Disease Society of America, and the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society, she serves as a member of the National Vaccine Advisory Committee, at the direction of the United States Assistant Secretary of Health, to provide recommendations for ways to achieve optimal prevention of human infectious diseases through vaccine development.

Dr. Jackson is the Dean of the UMKC School of Medicine, working to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion for students, staff, and faculty, to inspire an innovative curriculum and to promote a vibrant discovery enterprise for the 6-year BA-MD program, the Master in Science Physician Assistant, the Masters in Science Anesthesia Assistant and Graduate Health Education programs. As a national thought leader in pediatric infectious disease topics, her research efforts continue to focus on the judicious use of antibiotics, and optimal use and education to promote coverage and eliminate disparities related to vaccines. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she has served on advisory committees at the University, state, and national levels.
