Dr. Marwan G. Fakih received his medical degree from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, in 1992. He subsequently completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the Detroit Medical Center / Wayne State University (1992–95) and a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh (1998–2001).

His academic career started at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI), where he was appointed as a tenure-track Associate Professor in Internal Medicine (University at Buffalo / RPCI) and as the Head of the Gastrointestinal Cancer Section. He subsequently joined the University of Michigan as Professor of Medicine in 2010, where he served as the Director of the Gastrointestinal Cancer Program. He joined City of Hope in 2012, where he serves as the Section Head of Gastrointestinal Cancers, Co-Director of the Phase I Program, and Director of the Clinical Research Unit. Across all three institutions, he has been involved in educational activities and fellow mentoring, receiving the Best Teaching Award several years in a row.

He serves on numerous national committees and editorial boards. He is a member of the NCI Colorectal Cancer Task Force, SWOG Gastrointestinal Cancer Core Committee, NRG Oncology Colorectal Cancer Core Committee, ACCRU Gastrointestinal Cancer Core Committee, and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Board of Directors. In addition, he serves on the editorial boards of several scientific journals.

Over the past 17 years, his career has focused on colorectal cancer research and clinical drug development (Phase I/II trials). He has conducted numerous investigator-initiated trials in patients with solid tumors and colorectal cancer, including cytotoxic, targeted, and immunotherapeutic agents. These, among other research efforts, have resulted in more than 130 peer-reviewed articles.
